"Blue Blanket, Red Cells" by Hunter Madsen

"Blue Blanket, Red Cells"

Felled by lymphoma, my spouse Marcus staggered into the hospital with only about one third the count of red blood cells in his body that one would expect in a healthy adult, and his remaining flesh was melting away before my eyes. We both understood that this berth on 10C, the wing of the hospital tending the most desperate cases, might well become his death bed, if the chemo treatment failed.
