Buddha On the Road

"If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him."
 - Zen koan

Correctly understood in modern terms, Buddhism constitutes a form of cognitive behavioural therapy or a strictly pragmatic practicum for living without anxiousness. It is not a sacred faith as such, and Siddhartha Gautama's teachings offered no particular conception of a deity or an afterlife, indeed, no religious beliefs of any kind. Some adherents have rectified this oversight by kneeling down to worship the Awakened One himself, religious belief thereby becoming the stubborn obstacle to its opposite, mindfulness.
