When working on this image, a grim memory of the Twin Towers collapse in 2001 - which unfortunately I witnessed first hand from a viewing point in midtown Manhattan, and which left me traumatized for years - came disturbingly back to mind. I realized that I was re-imagining being caught in one of the tower's melting, imploding elevator shafts, as some were, in wordless terror.
