ABOUT THE GALLERY, SEMIOTIC PLATES
At an architectural salvage yard, I came across a stack of discarded iron plates from which sign elements had been cut out. The plates carried intricately rusted patinas, to which I have applied transformations of hue and value. The result, in the image above and those that follow, is a curious fantasia of semiotic or glyph abstractions. You may find it interesting to contrast these beauty-alienating transformations with the images of the gallery "Non-Signs," which celebrate a related kind of beauty from disorder.
