"Rai·son d'ê·tre"
Socrates insisted famously that the unexamined life is not worth living, but neglected to convince anyone of the converse. Don't all of the more considered reasons for being evaporate at second glance with an unbearable lightness? And so we vamp, we tap-dance, we get painterly on how life looks. We solarize the image. This stage-fright is for mortals: few of us are ready for our close-up.
