The Cloud of Unknowing by Hunter Madsen

The Cloud of Unknowing

The title is borrowed from a cantata by Robert Kyr, which sets texts from a mystic, St. Teresa of Avila (16th c.), beginning with this one:

There is a cloud of darkness
That you cannot imagine;
Not a cloud in the air,
Nor the absence of light.
It is all that you do not know,
All that you have forgotten,
All that you do not see
With your spiritual eye.
This is the cloud of unknowing
Between you and the One.
