"Tree Trunk as Mountainside Vista (after Thomas Moran)"
This image handles the veined, rippling surface of a large tree trunk as though the trunk itself represented a sweeping, mountainous landscape as viewed from above at some distance. I have chosen an earthy palette that loosely echoes, if only tongue in cheek, the warm and radiant light favored by Thomas Moran (1837-1926) in his celebrated paintings of Yellowstone National Park.
